With an eye on the November election, a new survey indicates many American voters are becoming more aware of the media’s heavy presidential leanings to the incumbent, notes Grumpy Editor.
The latest Rasmussen Reports survey finds that a hefty 59 percent of likely U.S. voters believe President Barack Obama is receiving better treatment from the media while only 18 percent think Republican challenger Mitt Romney is being treated better.
What’s more, those surveyed say they expect biased coverage to continue.
Interestingly, about one-fourth (23 percent) of voters --- who apparently skirt print or broadcast political stories --- mention they aren’t sure who gets the better treatment, finds the survey of 1,000 likely voters conducted Aug. 8 and 9.
Questions posed in the Rasmussen Reports survey:
1 --- When covering a political campaign, do most reporters try to offer unbiased coverage or do they try to help the candidate they want to win?
2 --- Think for a moment about the two major presidential candidates this year. Which candidate received the best treatment from the media so far --- Barack Obama or Mitt Romney?
3 --- Looking ahead to the campaign between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney, will most reporters try to help Barack Obama, offer unbiased coverage, or try to help Mitt Romney?
4 --- Suppose a reporter learned some news that might politically hurt a candidate they wanted to win. Would most reporters hide that information to help the candidate?
5 --- When it comes to information about the presidential campaign, who do you trust more --- news reporters or family and friends?
