Overnight, a new key city --- oops! make that a Nevada ghost town --- surfaces near Las Vegas, according to Google Maps, and that is causing some red faces at Google, notes Grumpy Editor.
Rochester, Nev. appears on Google Maps between Las Vegas and Henderson, the state’s second largest city.
Google Maps places Rochester on the 215 freeway, just west of Henderson, 15 miles southeast of Sin City.
Travelers relying on Google Maps for directions and information will find that Rochester has no restaurants or lodging. No streets, either.
That’s because Rochester doesn’t exist. Not in Nevada, at least. (But maybe in Twilight Zone.)
Other Rochesters continue to hum in New York and Minnesota, however.
Google Maps, in placing the latest Rochester in Nevada’s Clark County, has county officials scratching their heads.
They wonder why no taxes have been flowing from that city.
A spokesperson says Google is working hard to fix the error which came out of nowhere and thus is a mystery, making it a true Western ghost town.
