As July temperatures soar, an interesting new survey --- but one spiked by daily newspapers in just about all the cities involved --- pinpoints top 20 sweatiest cities in the U.S., notices Grumpy Editor.
You won’t find that recognition in chamber of commerce brochures from the cities cited. And just the mention of their city as a perspiration center causes editors to break out in a sweat.
The survey, conducted by anti-perspirant/deodorant Old Spice, a product of Procter & Gamble Co., finds Phoenix ranks as the “undisputed sweatiest city” in the land.
In capturing that title, Old Spice is sending 94 sticks of deodorant to Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon. Receiving that package likely will be the least covered event involving the mayor’s office this year.
Rankings, according to Old Spice, are based on computer simulations of the amount of sweat a person of average height and weight would produce walking around for an hour in the average temperatures during the summer months, based on historical weather data during June, July and August from 2001-2008 for each city.
Sweatiest areas in the tally are Texas, with seven cities, and Florida with five.
Here are the top 20:
