Dow Jones Newswires boosts world coverage with AFP

As part of Dow Jones Newswires broader strategy to beef up its global financial news operations, it will now distribute editorial content from Agence France-Presse (AFP), notes Grumpy Editor.

This follows termination of a 41-year-old deal to carry Associated Press news after failing to agree on a price following more than a year of negotiations.

However, content agreements that The Wall Street Journal and Dow Jones Factiva have with AP are not affected.

Paris-based AFP, the world’s oldest news agency, has 2,900 staff and stringers in 165 countries.  It covers the world in six languages.  Dow Jones Newswires with nearly 90 bureaus worldwide, publishes up to 12,000 items daily in 11 languages.

Last week, Dow Jones acquired Betten Financial News, a Dutch financial and economic news organization.
